Dokkum is tussen 1960 en 2013 gegroeid met 5378 personen.
De laatste jaren schommelt de bevolking rond de 12.500 inwoners.

We gaan eerst naar de tijd van de 2de wereld oorlog. Dat was van het jaar 1940 t/m 1945. De Duitsers vielen in mei 1940 Nederland binnen. Daarna werden ze 5 dagen tegen gehouden. Door het leger van Nederland.. De Duitsers zeiden als Nederland zich niet overgaf, Dat ze Rotterdam zouden bombarderen en toen gaf Nederland zich over. En toen waren de Duitsers de baas. Zoals jullie vast al weten was Hitler de baas van de Duitsers En nu ook van Nederland. Hitler was ook een schilder. In Dokkum was de oorlog minder erg dan in grote steden. Zoals: Rotterdam, Amsterdam & Utrecht. En nu gaan we verder met Dokkum over de oorlog
De oorlog in Dokkum begon met een Duitse soldaat. Die stond op wacht onder de adelaar met het haken kruis. bij de oude burgerschool in Dokkum. Er waren ook veel verzet mensen. Zoals Piet Brouwer & Piet Oberman. Joodse mensen lieten ze onderduiken omdat ze anders niet veilig waren. Het verzet was tegen de Duitsers. Sommigen mensen hebben op de muur geschreven OZO dat betekend oranje zal overwinnen. En dat is gelukt. Op 5 mei 1945 was heel Nederland bevrijd ook Dokkum.
Horen jullie ook altijd de klokken om 10 voor 10. Dat is omdat de stad poorten dan over 10 min Sluiten. De klokken luiden om dat de mensen dan wisten dat ze nog 10 min hadden, Om binnen de stads poorten te komen. Weten jullie ook waarom de stads poorten waren? Dat was omdat er veel rovers waren in deze tijd.
Het Dockumer Lokaeltsje heeft gereden van 1901 t/m 1936
Daarna werd het soms gebruikt, het meest voor goederenvervoer.
In de 19deen de 20e eeuw kwamen er nieuwe vervoersmiddelen.
In 1880 kwam de eerste paardentram naar Dokkum,
En daarna kwam pas het Dockumer lokaeltsje.

We first go to the time of the second world war. That was from the year 1940 up to 1945. The Germans attacked in May 1940, theNetherlands. They were then 5 days stopped y the army of the Netherlands. The Germans said that if the Dutch army wouldn’t surrender they would bomb Rotterdam and then Holland surrendered. And then the Germans were the boss. As you probably already know Hitler was the boss of the Germans and now also of the Netherlands. Hitler was also a painter. In Dokkum the war was less serious than in large cities. such as: Rotterdam, Amsterdam & Utrecht. And now we move on to the war in Dokkum
In Dokkum the war began with a German soldier who stood on guard among the Eagle with the swastika at the old citizen school in Dokkum. There were also a lot of people in the resistance, such As Piet Brouwer & Piet Oberman. They were hiding Jewish people so they were safe. The resistance was against the Germans. Some people have written OZO on the wall that means Orange will be victorious, and they succeeded. On 5 May 1945 the whole country was set free, Dokkum also.
Do you always hear the clocks at 10 to 10. That is because the city gates are closing within 10 min. The bells ring so the people knew they had another 10 min, To go within the citygates. Do you know what the purpose was of the city gates? That was because there were many robbers during this time and within the city walls the people were safe.
The Dockumer Lokaeltsje has driven from 1901 till 1936 afterwards it was sometimes used, the most for the transport of goods. In the 19th and the 20th century new means of transport arose. In 1880 the first horse tram came to Dokkum, and later the Dockumer lokaeltsje.
